Preheat your oven according to the instructions on the cake mix box. Prepare a 9x13" pan with nonstick spray. In a large bowl or stand mixer, on low speed, combine cake mix, 1 ¼ cup of root beer, vegetable oil, and eggs. Mix the cake batter until it's well combined and smooth. Pour the batter into the prepared 9x13" cake pan.

Lightly grease an 8" square or 9" round pan that's at least 2" deep. Whisk the dry ingredients together in a medium-sized bowl. Whisk the vanilla, vinegar, vegetable oil, and water in a separate bowl. Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl of dry ingredients, stirring until thoroughly combined. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
