Apple peels - drying apple peels with cinnamon sugar or plain (and then turned into powder) is a great way to use up the apple and have a fun treat. They are great for salads, coleslaw, or crisped in the oven! Because apples are on the dirty dozen list for pesticides, you may choose to do this with only organic apples.

Lay out any apple peels left over from your favorite creation on a parchment covered baking sheet. Place in 300ºF oven. Bake in oven for 30-40 minutes until mostly dry and crisp. Turn the oven off and leave peels in the oven until completely dried out. Store in an airtight container.

Ingredients. 3 cups apple peels, cores and trimmings. 3 to 4 tablespoons sugar. Method. Submerge a 1-quart glass jar in boiling water for 10 minutes to sterilize. Drain and cool. Fill jar with apple trimmings and 3 tablespoons sugar. Fill jar with water so trimmings are completely submerged, using a weight if necessary.
