Diospyros crassiflora is a widespread tall tree in African evergreen Guineo-Congolian forest, distributed from Benin province in southern Nigeria to southernmost Gabon, and eastwards into the Congolian basin in a narrow band between the equator and 4 degrees N latitude to the easternmost rim of the basin at 1,000 m altitude.
