The Reddit post I linked in OP discusses MUCH more than just chest-lewt.. It identifies CORE issues with AG's development stratagies - and how they are negatively impacting the game.. I'd even call it an easy grind compared to other MMOs, but the grind on New World isn't fun. It doesn't feel rewarding. Bingo. This is exactly it. It's not.

New World’s First Update Brings Various Bug Fixes
New World is fun for a while if you like its combat style. PvE content is limited and even casual gamers can easily farm M10 mutations if they put a little effort into gearing over a few months of casual play. PvP can give more content for people who enjoy it, but even PvP gets old overtime.
