Brian Payne - 26 June 2021 2723 There'd been talk of Louis Armstrong meeting up with Duke Ellington's orchestra for some time but this never materialised. Instead, in 1961 Ellington sat in with Satchmo's All-Stars as guest pianist for two days of recording. It was to be the first and last studio meeting between the two men.

Album The great reunion de Louis Armstrong & Duke Ellington sur CDandLP

In 1961, the sixty-somethings Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong got together for two days of recording. The great innovators wrote no new chapters in jazz history, created no controversy, and played nothing we hadn't heard before (almost). It was glorious. The hoped for meeting of Satchmo and Ellington's orchestra never materialized.
